With Xi Jinping holding the top positions in the ruling Party and the country's leadership, the world's most populous country has a resolute helmsman to guide its journey of rejuvenation and lead it to the realization of its dream of becoming a prosperous, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious and beautiful modern socialist country.

Xi, who is general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and head of the Party's military commission, was unanimously elected president of the People's Republic of China and chairman of the Central Military Commission of the PRC at the fifth meeting of the First Plenary Session of the 13th National People's Congress on Saturday.

Such a "three in one" leadership arrangement, which ensures the authority and unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Xi as the core, guarantees that the unique advantages and benefits of China's political system and socialism with Chinese characteristics are fully brought into play for the benefit of the country and the Chinese people.

Reflecting both the will of the Party and the Chinese people, it is conducive to maintaining and strengthening the Party's overall leadership over the governance of the country, laying a solid political and organizational foundation for the prospering of the nation.

Over the five years since Xi was elected general secretary of the CPC Central Committee at the 18th Party National Congress in November 2012, much has been achieved in economic development, social progress and diplomacy.

Behind these accomplishments have been the wisdom and leadership capabilities demonstrated by Xi, and his skills as a statesman.

And with the Party, the PLA and the Chinese people united around the CPC Central Committee with Xi Jinping at its core, there are no problems that cannot be solved, challenges that cannot be overcome and no goal that cannot be attained.

Xi has fully displayed his farsightedness and his ability to design long-term strategy and demonstrate that he always maintains people's interests as the focus of his work. His deep concern for people's well-being has strengthened the cohesion of the Chinese nation, and has become the mainstay of the Party, the country and its people.

The road ahead will not be smooth, as there are still many challenges to be overcome. For the ruling Party to do a good job in governance, in advancing reform and opening-up, in promoting a healthy market economy and in dealing with an increasingly complicated external environment, those qualities will need to be demonstrated to the fullest.

Should the CPC leadership have failed to consolidate its purpose in this way, it could have been vulnerable to weakness in resolve, inadequacy in its governing capability, detachment from the general public and corruption from within.

The public oath of allegiance to the Constitution made by Xi and the other elected State leaders－a ceremony held for the first time in history－reinforced the leadership's dedication to fulfilling their duties for the good of the Party, the country and the people.

What the current leadership has achieved in building a clean Party and government in the past five years has assured it can be trusted to bring about a glorious future for the country.

With an overall design to promote coordinated economic, political, cultural, social and ecological advancement and an action plan of comprehensive moves to finish the tasks of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, deepening reform, advancing law-based governance, and strengthening the Party's self-governance, the country can have confidence that the strategic vision for developing socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era will be achieved.
