Premier Li Keqiang met with International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in Beijing on Dec 8, 2020, via video link.
“I, Mrs Kristalina Georgieva and leaders of several major international economic institutions held the fifth "1+6" Roundtable not long ago, and we made a clear commitment to multilateralism and agreed to join hands to fight against global challenges,” Premier Li said.
The Premier said IMF has been playing an important role in promoting free trade and the development of the world’s economy, and further efforts will be needed to promote the consensus on multilateralism.
China, Premier Li added, is willing to make its due contribution as the biggest developing country.
He also introduced China’s current economic situation, and noted that China is confident in achieving positive economic growth this year, which is not easy for a country with 1.4 billion people.
The world economy is still facing uncertainties on the road to recovery, he said, adding that China will continue to balance epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development, maintain the continuity, stability and sustainability of macroeconomic policies, and strive to keep China’s economy within a reasonable range.
Georgieva said the IMF appreciates China’s great efforts in trade, world economic recovery, poverty alleviation and low-carbon growth, and would like to strengthen cooperation with China in upholding multilateralism, injecting impetus to world trade invigoration and strengthening world economic recovery.
State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, He Lifeng, head of the National Development and Reform Commission, also attended the meeting.
