Couriers in their 30s and 40s are the main personnel in the sector, accounting for about 40 percent, respectively, while 3.02 percent of delivery drivers were born after 2000, according to a survey on couriers' work conditions in 2020.

The online survey collected 19,260 pieces of effective samples from 11 country-level courier companies in China. It was released at an annual event held by China Post and Express News and other post-related media on Monday in Beijing.

The survey showed that the work experience of more than 60 percent of couriers was less than three years.

As for delivery volume, about 80 percent of couriers handled no more than 200 parcels per day. As the last leg of logistics became more efficient, more than 1 percent could handled 600 parcels or more every day, up 0.2 percent year-on-year.

More than half of couriers earned a monthly salary of less than 5,000 yuan ($768) last year, while 1.3 percent earned more than 10,000 yuan. The number of couriers gaining 6,000 to 8,000 yuan a month doubled that in 2019, the survey showed.

Over 70 percent of couriers were satisfied with the way their companies handled customer complaints, up 17 percent from last year. More than 63 percent felt confident in their company's future development.

During the event, a total of 13 courier companies, including China Postal Express, SF Express, ZTO Express, and JD Logistics, were given a special award for making contributions in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic last year.
