The launch event of Huichang Theatre Village was held in Beijing on Thursday, which announced that the theatre village will officially open on Jan 5.

Huichang Theatre Village is a collaborative effort between prestigious director Stan Lai and the local government. The village includes four indoor performance venues, each with unique functions, as well as several outdoor squares. The design of the village has taken into consideration the preservation of the original features of the local historic streets.

The 10-day-long Huichang Theatre Season will kick off to unveil its curtain, featuring outstanding troupes at home and abroad showcasing their works. Additionally, various street performance arts will meet the audiences. Furthermore, the event will include programs such as artist-in-village, master workshops, and experience workshops. In an effort to establish an exhibition platform and foster cultural exchanges, the village is inviting talented artists from around the world to submit their exceptional performance artworks.

Stan Lai said that the development of cultural creative industries goes beyond the mere construction of theaters, which requires gradual and localized cultivation. The planned programs are designed to support and encourage more innovative and introspective artists to continue their explorations and creations in the village.

Huichang county in Ganzhou city of East China's Jiangxi province boasts a rich history of 1,042 years, which has profound cultural foundations and beautiful natural sceneries. Huichang Theatre Village is located on Northwest Street within the ancient county of the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127) in Huichang, which is a place carrying thousands of years of memories of history and culture.

Pan Jincheng, the secretary of the Huichang county committee, prestigious directors Stan Lai and Meng Jinghui, famous producer Ding Naizhu, Pan Huisen, art director of Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, Tobias Biancone, secretary-general of the International Theatre Institute, Romania scholar Octavian Saiu as well as other guests attended the event.
