The Volvo China Open has been sanctioned by the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour) since 2004, but due to the pandemic and other reasons, it was not included in the DP World Tour schedule from 2020 to 2023. However, the Volvo China Open continued to be held during this period, hosting two separate certified tournaments by the China Tour in 2020 and 2021, and returning to international embrace in 2023, receiving joint certification from the Asian Tour and becoming a stop in the Asian Tour international series. The 2024 Volvo China Open will be co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the China Tour.
