Nordics for Climate Action, in collaboration with Shanghai Climate Week, announced an upcoming series of sustainability events aimed at fostering public engagement in climate innovation at a press event in Shanghai on Sept 23.

Over the next six months, from Oct 2024 to spring 2025, the Nordics for Climate Action, a joint initiative led by Denmark, Finland and Norway aimed at fostering innovative solutions and international cooperation to combat climate change, will engage with the public through talks, workshops and other activities focusing on the energy transition, sustainable urban development, and the circular economy.

During the press event, the consul generals of Denmark, Finland and Norway in Shanghai, and representatives of Shanghai Climate Week, which highlights China's environmental commitments and promotes global cooperation, voiced their support.

"The strong collaboration between our countries proves how joint efforts and innovation can help us achieve ambitious global climate goals," said Mikael Winther, consul general of Denmark in Shanghai.

Guan Jie, executive secretary general of the Shanghai Climate Week Executive Committee, praised the Nordic nations' leadership in climate action and emphasized collaboration to drive sustainability.

"Shanghai Climate Week, in collaboration with the Nordics for Climate Action initiative, has taken significant steps in addressing climate change, fostering a more sustainable and resilient future with Nordic and global partners. Through this initiative, we encourage more businesses, social organizations and the public to actively participate in the fight against climate change," said Guan.

Business councils from the Nordic countries also brought a network of Nordic and Chinese companies. Bobo Xie, a Finnish company executive, expressed her expectations for the upcoming Nordic Climate Action events. "We hope that through the Nordic Climate Initiative, more organizations will participate in the industry's carbon transformation," she said.

The dynamic city of Shanghai has long been known as China's key locale for international exchange, making it the perfect place for Nordics for Climate Action as it looks to engage and inspire a wider community, particularly youth, in the city and beyond.
