Typhoon Bualoi, the 20th typhoon of the year, was positioned about 185 kilometers southeast of Sanya, Hainan province, as of 8 am Sunday. It is expected to move south of Hainan Island throughout the day, eventually making landfall on the central-northern coast of Vietnam between Sunday night and Monday morning.

Huang Zhuo, deputy head of the National Meteorological Center, said the storm is forecast to bring strong winds and heavy rainfall to southern China, affecting areas such as Hainan, southwestern Guangdong province, southern Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, western Guizhou province, and southern Yunnan province.

The weather in September was marked by increased typhoon activity, with six typhoons forming in the Northwest Pacific and South China Sea, three of which made landfall in China. The national average rainfall was 80.1 millimeters, 32.4 percent above the historical average, marking the fourth highest since 1961, Huang said at a news conference on Sunday.

In October, typhoons will remain a concern, with forecasts predicting one to two typhoons to land or significantly impact China's coastal areas. The Northwest Pacific and South China Sea are expected to generate four to six tropical cyclones, surpassing the usual 3.5 cyclones for this period, Huang said.

Xiao Chan, deputy head of the National Climate Center, said next month, most regions in China will experience temperatures that are near or above the historical average for this time of year. However, areas such as part of North China, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, Northwest China, and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region are expected to see slightly cooler temperatures.

Meanwhile, precipitation is expected to be above average in several regions, Xiao said. Areas like western Shanxi province, southwestern Inner Mongolia, northern Shaanxi province, eastern Gansu province, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, most of Guangdong, eastern Guangxi, Hainan, and southwestern Xizang autonomous region could see 20 to 50 percent more rainfall.?

Over the next 10 days, two major precipitation events are anticipated to affect Sichuan Basin, Shaanxi, Chongqing, and provinces of Hubei and Henan. The rainfall is likely to disrupt mechanized harvesting operations, temporarily hindering the autumn harvest. Additionally, persistently wet soil conditions will not be conducive to timely autumn planting, according to the meteorological center.
