Volkswagen Group's "In China, for China" strategy has borne fruit, with market-ready results to be showcased at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai, which opens on Wednesday.

The German car group is displaying eight models across its Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche brands, including five new energy vehicles and the Asian premiere of the new Porsche 911 Turbo S.

The lineup highlights both the company's accelerating local R&D efforts and its expanding portfolio of intelligent connected vehicles tailored to Chinese consumers.

A key highlight is the debut of the "3-in-1 Digital Box", an interactive exhibit showcasing Volkswagen's locally developed China Electronic Architecture, Compact Main Platform, and advanced driver assistance systems — technologies that will underpin the group's next-generation ICVs entering mass production from 2026.

Oliver Blume, chairman of the board of management of Volkswagen AG, said participation in the CIIE "underscores the Volkswagen Group's unwavering commitment to China".

"Guided by our 'In China, for China' strategy, we have made substantial investments to enhance our local R&D capacities. Going forward, we aim to deepen collaboration with local partners and foster mutual growth across the Chinese and German automotive industries," he said.

At the Volkswagen booth, three new concept models preview upcoming production cars due in 2026: the ID. AURA sedan, the ID. ERA full-size extended-range SUV, and the ID. EVO all-electric SUV.

Audi will showcase two all-electric models — the A6L e-tron and AUDI E5 Sportback — alongside the classic Audi 100 Coupé S. Porsche brings two icons of performance and heritage: the new 911 Turbo S, making its Asian debut, and a 1969 911 S Targa marking the 60th anniversary of the 911 series.

Volkswagen Group, the most successful international carmaker in China for more than four decades, has provided mobility for over 50 million customers through its joint ventures with SAIC, FAW and JAC.

The group said it plans to launch around 30 NEVs in China by 2027 and about 50 by 2030, reinforcing its leadership among international OEMs while shaping the future of intelligent and sustainable mobility "in China, for China".
