China has urged Japan to "earnestly reflect and correct" its wrongdoings and create conditions for normal economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, the Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday.

He Yongqian, spokeswoman for the ministry made the remarks during a news conference in response to media inquiries regarding China-Japan economic ties.

"China remains committed to high-standard opening-up and is working to create a market-oriented, law-based, and world-class business environment," He said, citing a recent survey showing strong confidence among Japanese companies operating in the country.

A February 2026 survey by the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China indicates that, despite geopolitical tensions, 59 percent of member firms plan to increase or maintain their investment levels this year, a 3 percentage point rise from the previous survey. Companies highlighted robust Chinese infrastructure, available talent, and high demand as key factors for their continued commitment.

"A stable and healthy China-Japan economic and trade relationship serves the common interests of the peoples of both countries," He said.

China-Japan relations have deteriorated significantly following erroneous comments by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi last November that hinted at the possibility of military intervention over the Taiwan question.

He urged Japan to "earnestly reflect and correct" its approach, thus creating conditions for normal economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
