PLA Navy to host public on warships

The People's Liberation Army Navy will host open-house events next week to mark its 77th founding anniversary, allowing members of the public to board its ships for guided tours. The North Sea Fleet, South Sea Fleet and East Sea Fleet have all announced opportunities for the public to visit their warships across multiple coastal cities, aiming to enhance civil-military relations and display the modernization progress of the PLA Navy. The North Sea Fleet will host open activities in Qingdao, Shandong province, and Dalian, Liaoning province. The South Sea Fleet will host the public in Guangzhou and Zhanjiang in Guangdong province, Sanya and Danzhou in Hainan province, and Beihai in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, from April 23 to 26. The East Sea Fleet will hold open events in Ningbo, Shanghai, Zhoushan, Taizhou, Nantong, Xiamen and Shantou from April 21 to 26.

China releases salmon fry into boundary river

China has released 600,000 salmon fry into the Tumen River to restore aquatic life and support cross-border ecological cooperation in Northeast Asia. The release took place in the Mijiang River area, a national aquatic germplasm protection zone for salmon in Hunchun city, Northeast China's Jilin province. The Tumen River runs along the borders of China, Russia and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The Mijiang River, a key tributary of the Tumen River, is a vital spawning and migration route for wild salmon. In recent years, wild salmon populations have dropped sharply due to environmental changes, land and waterway development, and fishing activities. To reverse this decline, China has carried out science-based stock enhancement: breeding and releasing native fish to rebuild wild populations. They will swim downstream into the Sea of Japan.
