The remains of 12 Chinese People's Volunteers martyrs, who died during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-53), were laid to rest in Shenyang, Northeast China, on Thursday morning, a day after returning from South Korea. The burial ceremony took place at a cemetery dedicated to the martyrs of the war in Shenyang, Liaoning province.

Nearly 500 people attended the ceremony, including representatives of the martyrs' families, astronauts, and Olympic athletes.

Since 2014, China and South Korea have completed the handover of the remains of Chinese People's Volunteers martyrs in South Korea for 13 consecutive years, in accordance with humanitarian principles, bringing home a total of 1,023 martyrs.

Liu Chenxi, a sixth-grade student from a primary school in Huanggu district of Shenyang, attended the ceremony. She expressed that heroes had once seemed distant to her but now truly understood that "today's happy life is closely tied to their sacrifice."

She added, "I will start from the little things and become a responsible young person, and carry forward this patriotic spirit."

Sun Xuejiao, Party chief of the Shanggangzi sub-district in Shenyang, said she felt honored to take part in the preparatory work for the burial ceremony.

"I will remain true to the original aspiration of serving the people, stay rooted at the grassroots level, and fulfill my duties, so as to honor the martyrs with sincerity," she said.
