Shenzhen has become the most economically competitive city in the country, followed by Hong Kong and Shanghai, according to a recent report by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

The index measures the performance of 294 cities with most located in the Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta and Bohai Rim.

The report also looked at liveability and sustainabilities competitiveness with Hong Kong ranking first on both those counts.
