The birth of two power giants

Recent years, two electricity giants, Huaneng Group and Datang Group, emerged. Statistics show that the gross investment of the two giants surpassed billions of yuan over the past three years.

Zhai Ruoyu, general manager of Datang Group said its generation capacity has exceeded 50 million kilowatts (kW) by August 27, 2006. But four years ago when it was founded, Datang only had 23.85 million kW generation capacity. The generation capacity has doubled over the past three years.

In early 2002, Datang's business was mainly concentrated in Northeastern areas, including Gansu, Shanxi, Hebei, Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces. Later, it expanded to the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region, Fujian, Anhui, Jiangsu, Hunan, Guangxi, Sichuan and Yunnan provinces.
