Haier leads in global refrigerator sales

Chinese home appliance maker Haier has displaced US rival Whirlpool as the world's top refrigerator maker in terms of sales with a 6.3 percent global market share, according to Euromonitor, the world's leading independent business intelligence provider.

Haier sold 12 million refrigerators worldwide in 2008, up 20 percent from 2007, the Qingdao-based company told China Daily.

Haier is China's first consumer appliance brand to win worldwide recognition. It is also the fourth largest white goods manufacturer in the world with a presence in over 160 countries.
