LANZHOU - China's tourism income rose 18 percent year-on-year to top 1 trillion yuan ($153.85 billion) during the first half of this year, the National Tourism Administration (NTA) said on Wednesday.

Domestic tourists made 1.33 billion trips, an increase of 13 percent from one year earlier. Inbound trips edged up one percent to 66 million while outbound trips jumped 19 percent to 32 million, the NTA said.

Some 3,837 tourism projects were under construction during the first half, with completed investments in the period worth 61.56 billion yuan, up 10.5 percent year-on-year.

The steady domestic economic growth and rising residents' incomes created favorable conditions for the development of the country's tourism industry during the second half, said Wang Zhifa, deputy head of the NTA.

However, Wang warned that high inflationary expectations and rainy weather in the country's southern regions might dampen people's willingness to travel.

The continued appreciation of the yuan is also likely to have an adverse impact on the country's inbound tourism sector, he added.
