TOKYO - Three major Japanese carmakers on Thursday reported sharp decrease in their output in China in October amid tensions over territorial dispute between the two countries.

Toyota Motor Corp said that its Chinese output tumbled 61 percent from a year earlier to 30,591 units in October, falling for the third straight month.

Nissan Motor Co's production in China dropped 44.0 percent to 61,360 units, and that of Honda Motor Co fell 54.2 percent to 26, 302 units.

However Toyota's overall overseas output increased 12.9 percent from a year earlier to 430,041, a record high for the month of October, thanks to robust sales in Asia excluding Japan, and North America.

Honda produced 266,076 units overseas, up 20.2 percent, also logging a record high for the reporting month on brisk sales in the United States.

Nissan's overseas output fell 1.7 percent to 310,157 units.
