Death rises to 7 in Hangzhou subway tunnel collapse

HANGZHOU - Two more bodies are found in the rubble of a subway construction site collapse in eastern China, bringing the death toll to seven. Rescuers are still searching for 14 others.

Both victims were male. One, surnamed Fang, was from Chun'an county of Zhejiang. The other man is yet to be identified.

Between 400-500 rescuers are looking for 14 people still trapped after a 75-meter section of subway tunnel collapsed Saturday afternoon. The section was under construction in the Xiaoshan District of the Zhejiang Province.

Hope to find the missing still alive is diminishing.

"It (the mire) could be as deep as seven meters," said Yang Zhongjie, an expert with the rescue team. Yang added that water in the pit was drained Sunday but there were still as many as 20,000 cubic meters of mire to be cleared.

The collapse injured 24 people, all of whom were initially hospitalized. So far, eleven have been discharged.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
