US launches fresh probe into fatal tour bus crash

LOS ANGELES -- A separate investigation has been launched by a US federal agency into the bus company involved in Friday's fatal bus crash that killed six Chinese tourists and their Chinese-American tour guide, a spokesman said Tuesday.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, an agency of the US Department of Transportation, is launching its own investigation into the company, DW Tour & Charter of San Gabriel, California, the administration spokesman Duane DeBruyne said.

National Transportation Safety Board and Arizona investigators already are examining the accident, which killed seven and injured nine others Friday on a highway about 40 km south of the Hoover Dam in Arizona.

State investigators didn't suspect any criminal intent, nor did they believe the driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash, said James Warriner of the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Six people injured in the accident are still in hospitals for treatment, two of whom are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, a group of family members of three Chinese victims arrived in Las Vegas Tuesday to claim the bodies, with more families coming on the way.
