Blacklist to expose failed donators

A "blacklist" of the enterprises which do not keep their promise about donations will be exposed when "The 2009 China Philanthropy List" is issued on April 24 in Beijing, according to Liu Jing, vice chairman of the China Association of Social Workers.

The move aims to supervise those enterprises that have promised to donate money but failed to deliver. The China Philanthropy List has become an annual grand affair in the charity industry since it was released in 2004 for the first time. The association is responsible for making the philanthropy list and the black list.

Some enterprises fail to keep their donation promises, triggering widespread debate among the public.

For example, many companies announced their decisions to donate money after the Sichuan earthquake took place on May 12, 2008. However, some of them have yet to contribute the money, said Liu, the Jinhua Times reported.

Chinese donations for the quake-stricken zone, including those from Chinese companies, have exceeded 100 billion (US$14.64 billion) yuan, according to Liu.
