Pregnant woman fired for refusing to travel far

A company in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province, face some legal troubles after it fired a pregnant woman who had refused to travel out of town.

The scientific and technological company dismissed Liu Juan, 27, in January after she became pregnant and refused to take any business trips that required her to leave the city.

She took the matter to an arbitration judge who awarded her 18,000 yuan ($2,636) but the company refused to accept the decision and is going to court.

A company cannot dismiss a worker who becomes pregnant. The city's Jianghan district people's court has accepted the case and is arranging a public hearing.
