BEIJING: An earthquake  measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit Taiwan at 0： 53 am Thursday, according to China National  Seismological Network.    The epicenter was initially determined to be  22.1 degrees north latitude and 120.3 degrees east  longitude.
