Chinese Photo Exhibition and Film Week open in Dhaka

DHAKA: Chinese Photo Exhibition and Film Week opened in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka on Saturday to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the new China.

Organized by Chinese embassy in Bangladesh, the exhibition displayed 60 photos in memory of 60 important moments in the development in China over the last 60 years.

At the opening ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Zhang Xianyi said the bilateral cooperation in many fields has been well developed since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on October 4, 1975.

Zhang hoped the exhibition and the films will serve as a window for the Bangladeshi people to know more about China.

"I hope through the pictures and films, you will obtain more information and impression about great changes that have taken place in China in the past decades," he said.

Secretary of Bangladeshi Culture Ministry Sharful Alam said China is a very important development partner of Bangladesh.

He hoped this kind of programs not only promote the cultural exchange between Bangladesh and China, but also promote the relations between the two countries.

Mohiuddin Taher has a Chinese name Mao Dahai. He had worked in China Radio International as a foreign expert for 9 and a half years until 2006. He is very much impressed by the fast economic development in China.

"I am very glad to see the achivements made by the Chinese people," he said.

Taher's wife Rasheda learned Chinese traditional painting for one and a half years when she was living in China. Rasheda brought 24 of her Chinese traditional paintings to the exhibition.

Rasheda said, "I like Chinese traditional painting. I continue to draw after I came back from China," he said.

Taher's elder son Utsho has a Chinese name Wu Qiu. He was two and a half years when he went to China with his parents. Wu Qiu, who speaks fluent Chinese, said at the exhibition he is missing China.

"I couldn't accept I was in Bangladesh, not in China when I just came back from China in 2006," he said.

Sikder is the secretary general of Bangladesh-China People's Friendship Association. He highly lauded the fast development of China during the last 60 years.

"China is the third economic power in the world. I hope in the next 20 years, China will have more developments," he said.

According to Chinese embassy, the Chinese Film Week will broadcast 17 films including 7 feature films and 10 documentaries.
