Argentine president visits China to promote economic ties

BEIJING - Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner Tuesday called on Chinese and Argentine business communities to make joint efforts to boost bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

Kirchner said at a China-Argentina business community luncheon in Beijing that two countries enjoyed great potential in trade and economic cooperation.
She told about 100 business people at the event that the prospects of bilateral cooperation were bright as the two countries had economic complementarity and sound political relations,
Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu, who also attended the event, said the Chinese government encouraged Chinese firms to invest in Argentina, while welcoming Argentinian entrepreneurs to do business in China.
China was pleased with the sound development of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, Hui said.
In the first four months of this year, the volume of bilateral trade exceeded 3.2 billion U.S. dollars, a 14.65-percent year-on-year increase, according to Argentina's National Institute of Statistics and Censuses.
Before the event, Hui and Cristina Kirchner held a meeting on bilateral ties, during which they also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
Following the meeting, they witnessed the signing of six contracts on cooperation in transportation and construction of infrastructural facilities.
According to the contracts, China will provide an export buyer's credit to Argentina on locomotive purchase.
The two countries will also cooperate in Argentina's construction of light rail system, subway building and electrification of rail lines.
Kirchner will also meet entrepreneurs from both countries on Thursday in Shanghai during a one-day stay in China's financial center.
