Taiwan attracts Cambodians to get medical services

PHNOM PENH - China's Taiwan is eying Cambodians who are having health problem to travel and get medical services there.

Babs Chang, project manager in charge of service industry promotion center of Taiwan External Trade Development Council ( TAITRA) said Monday that it is the first time that the TAITRA organizes a medical service delegation to Cambodia from August 23 through August 28.

She said the delegation composed of 4 hospitals, 2 beauty clinics, one travel agency, 2 associations and one theme park.

At the press conference held in Phnom Penh, Babs Chang said the delegation is eying Cambodian patients who may want to get ?medical services abroad to go to Taiwan, saying the quality and medical services there is most advanced with modern equipment ?among others.

On the price, she said, it is much cheaper compared to that in Singapore, Europe or the United States. "With a 14 day ?course of treatment, the cost is only about one thirds of the costs in the US," she said.

Babs Chang said Cambodia is the third country after Thailand and Vietnam where such medical services were approached.

Many Cambodian patients have been seeking medical treatments in several foreign countries, mostly to Vietnam and Thailand, ?but even go further to Singapore or Europe.

Cambodian government acknowledged that every day, there are about 250 Cambodians traveling to Vietnam to seek medical ?treatments there.

According Ministry of Health, Cambodia recorded 984 health centers and 84 hospitals across the country, but are not enough ?to accommodate health care of 14 million populations.
