BEIJING - President Hu Jintao said Monday that maintaining stability of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Korean Peninsula is in the common interests of all parties concerned.

Hu made the remark in a meeting with visiting Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Hu noted that maintaining the stability and development of the DPRK and peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula is in the common interests of all parties concerned and a universal aspiration of the international community.

China is ready to make joint efforts with all relevant parties, including Japan, to maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and to achieve lasting peace, security and order on the peninsula and northeast Asia, Hu said.

Noda said that in the face of the new situation on the Korean Peninsula, Japan and China should strengthen cooperation to preserve peace and stability on the peninsula, which is in the common interests of both countries.

Noda's visit to China, from Dec 25 to 26, came at the invitation of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. He held talks with Wen and met top legislator Wu Bangguo during the visit.
