Strong winds in Beijing forced 42 flights to be diverted on Tuesday.
One of the flights was forced to return to the capital, the capital airport authority said.
"The flight fell straight for hundreds of meters, and luckily it was pulled up by the aircraft commander," a passenger recalled with fear.
By 7 o'clock Wednesday morning, the capital airport returned to normal operation, the airport authority said.
