A testing platform for the C919, the first Chinese jumbo jet, started operating on Monday.

The platform, which is located in Shanghai, is a key testing facility for some of the airplane's main systems.

"This is a milestone for the C919," said Guo Bozhi, head of the Shanghai Aircraft Design and Research Institute, the main research subsidiary of Commercial Aircraft Corp of China, or COMAC, the plane's manufacturer.
