A vice-governor of Fujian province has been investigated for suspected "serious discipline violations," a euphemism for corruption, according to the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection on Friday.

Xu Gang is regarded as the first high-ranking "tiger" placed under investigation in Fujian since November 2012, when the new leadership was elected at the 18th Party Congress.

According to the CCDI, Xu, 57, graduated from Fudan University with a major in economic management. When serving as the vice-governor in Fujian, he took charge of civil affairs, human resources and social security, agriculture, as well as food and drug security. He also assisted in managing the local discipline inspection authority and the auditing department.
