Periphery debuts in China

Art beat in February

American band Periphery will give its debut concert in China. Formed by guitarist Misha Mansoor in 2005, the Maryland-based Djent-style six-piece group named Periphery is best known for their progressive sound constructed on polyrhythmic patterns. Its self-titled, full-length debut was released in 2010. Periphery II: This Time it's Personal was released in 2012. This time they invited Wes Hauch (the Faceless) and John Petrucci (Dream Theater) to stop by the studio to contribute several jaw-dropping solos.

Sing with Terry Lin

Terry Lin, who is praised as one of the three most beautiful voices in Taiwan, is going to share a romantic Valentine's night with his fans in Guangzhou. With his crystal voice and natural shifts from true voice and falsetto, Lin enchants with his lyrical love songs. Accompanied by a live band of nearly 30 musicians, the advocate for one-take live recording invites the whole audience at his concert in Guangzhou on Feb 14 to be part of a soundtrack on his next album, which includes the one-take recording of one song he performs during his ongoing concert tour around the world.

Sumi Jo's recital

Korean soprano Sumi Jo will give a recital at Shanghai Concert Hall on Valentine's Day. The concert will feature the best of Sumi Jo in appropriately virtuoso arias from bel canto operas. An established lyric coloratura soprano, Jo has the look, personality and acting abilities that make her "almost the equivalent of Joan Sutherland in many ways". It's one of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra 2013-14 season programs, and the orchestra will play under the baton of Zhang Jiemin. The most anticipated pieces include: Let the Bright Seraphim from Samson by Handel, Triumphal March from Aida by Verdi and Overture to Candide by Bernstein.
