Yunnan carvings

With a history dating back to the 10th century, the wood-carving craft of Jianchuan county, Yunnan province, has a distinctive style, combining the art and techniques of the Han people and Bai and other ethnic groups. Local craftsmen boast extraordinary skills in crafting exquisite patterns on buildings, furniture and other home decorations. This well-preserved and long-standing tradition is celebrated through a dozen refined representations, including Buddhist figurines and shrines, on display at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. The school has established an alliance with the county to help train inheritors and develop programs for the underdeveloped area.

Budapest's best

Budapest Festival Orchestra conducted by Ivan Fischer is set to entertain the Shanghai audience. Named one of the world's top 10 symphony or chestras by Gramophone, the Budapest Festival Orchestra was founded in 1983. Fischer has been the music director for the past 30 years, presenting intense and emotionally gripping performances. The program for the concert in Shanghai consists of Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor by Borodin, Violin Concerto by Glazunov, featuring violinist Renaud Capucon and Symphony No 7 by Beethoven.
