Mainland to boost investment in Taiwan

Chinese mainland and Taiwan signed agreements Sunday on launching regular flights across the Taiwan Straits, and boosting cooperation in finance and handling criminal proceedings.

They also reached a consensus on allowing mainland companies to invest in Taiwan.

During Sunday's talks, the mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) and the Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) agreed to "actively encourage and promote mainland companies to conduct inspections and invest on the island".

Wang Yi, a senior official in charge of Taiwan affairs in the Chinese mainland, said the three agreements and one consensus reached during this round of talks indicate new achievement in cross-Strait relations. Sunday's talk in Nanjing marks the third round of talks in less than a year between chief negotiators from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
