House Reconstruction Project in Sichuan
The third phase of House Reconstruction project was implemented in Xichang,
Puge and Xide counties. The project covered 7 townships and 9 administrative
villages, benefiting of 1,433 households and 5,563 people. The areas of
new-built and re-built houses totaled 80,000 square meters. After implementation
of the reconstruction project, the local people have changed the primitive
situation of living with animals under one roof to live a new civilized life.
Terracing Project in Guizhou
The third phase of Terracing project was implemented in 10 administrative
villages in the 3 townships of Machang in Zhenning County, Bangui and Huajiang
in Guanling County. 1,844 households and 7,402 farmers have benefited from the
project. The terracing area is 4,671 mu, about 890 mu dry land has been changed
to irrigated land after the third phase of the project. CFPA improved 3,580 mu
of irrigated land and reforested 4,864 mu, totaling 14,068.9 mu. In addition,
CFPA completed building rural road of 24,010 meters and canal of 3,903 meters.
In addition, 815,800 fruit trees have been planted, 334,915 cubic meters of
earth and stones have been removed. About 529,600 people worked voluntarily for
the project. The project was implemented during the winter off-season, when
spring came, farmers could sow seeds in the terraced land. The project brings
benefits to the farmers on the very same year when it is implemented. The survey
shows that, food production per household has increased by 1100 kg, income per
household from cash crops has increased by 357 Yuan, with the total income
increasing by 30-50% for farmer households.
Drinking water project in Shaguo Village of Yongning Township in Guanling
County
In October 1999, Misereor Foundation donated 100,000 Yuan to China Foundation
for Poverty Alleviation to supply drinking water for people and animals in
Shaguo Village, Yongning Township, Guanling County, Guizhou. The total
investment amounted to 320,000 Yuan, of which, 100,000 Yuan donated by Misereor
Foundation, 50,000 Yuan provided by Guiling County government, 61,000 Yuan
raised by local people, and 110,000 Yuan came from the Food for Work Program.
After the project completion, about 673 people and 375 animals would access to
water supply.
