Carrier convenes sustainability lecture series in Shanghai

With China’s rapid urbanization presenting a considerable opportunity to facilitate green building, Carrier brought its respected Distinguished Sustainability Lecture Series to China today. More than 100 building industry, property and hotel professionals joined Carrier in Shanghai to explore the latest green-building and sustainability trends and practices at the day-long event.
“Buildings account for 40 percent of energy consumption globally. In a high-growth economy like China, this presents a significant opportunity to make sound environmental improvements that are also good business decisions,” said John Mandyck, chief sustainability officer, UTC Climate, Controls & Security. “Carrier’s Distinguished Sustainability Lecture Series unites building industry leaders to accelerate the expansion of sustainable-building practices that deliver environmental, social and economic benefits.”
“This event provides an important forum for experts across the green-building industry to share best practices. The knowledge shared today can accelerate the implementation of proven energy efficiency solutions, ultimately contributing to the green-building movement across China,” added Ross Shuster, president, UTC Climate, Controls & Security - Asia. “As urbanization drives building development in Asia, coupled with retrofits in developed economies, there are huge opportunities for us to work together with the public and commercial sectors to generate energy savings, reduce operating costs and help meet sustainability goals.”
The intensive seminar focused on energy efficiency and sustainability solutions for green buildings in China. In addition to Mandyck, Mahesh Ramanujam, CEO, U.S. Green Building Council? (USGBC), and Valentine Lehr, founder and principal of Lehr Consultants, provided an international perspective on green-building design and development. Attendees also heard from Asian experts, who used examples of world-class green-building projects in China to quantify benefits and demonstrate how challenges have been overcome in hotels, data centers and large-scale retail developments.
Launched in the Middle East in 2011, Carrier’s Distinguished Sustainability Lecture Series has reached 1,800 professionals through 17 lectures in emerging markets around the world.
