From phones to keys, school uses smartphones as electronic keys

Wuhan Electromechanical Engineering School reportedly handed out smartphones with 600 yuan ($97.9) balances to their students, the Chutian Golden News reported on Saturday.

The idea behind handing the smartphones is that the devices would help the school keep track of the students as well as make students lives easier. Students can use the phones to enter and exit the school and the dorms among other thing. The phone will also be used as roll-calling device.

Man does handstands on edge of high-rise

An extreme sports enthusiast named Wang Lin in Wenzhou City was seen walking on his hands on the edge of the roof of a 27-story building, the Wenzhou Metropolis Daily reported on Friday.

Wang told a reporter at the Wenzhou Metropolis Daily that his fascination with handstands started from a hip-hop dance video he watched a decade ago. Since then, he practiced twice a day for ten years. Now, he can easily control himself to do handstands even in risky locations.

Wang said he loves the feeling of walking on his hands at high places. Onlookers have critized his actions saying that he’s, "showing off by risking his own life”.

Five-star hotel drops its rating to host official meetings

The five-star rating is highly coveted by many high class hotels, however one hotel in Beijing has just voluntarily dropped the distinction from its accolades, Hong Kong Daily News reported on Friday.

Beijing Jin Jiang Fu Yuan hotel dropped its five-star rating in order to be eligible to host government officials. Beijing has issued guidelines barring the use of five-star rated hotels to hold official meetings.

Children stole coins from cemetery

Dozens of funerary urns were forced open and their contents turned out in Yongkang city. Zhejiang province, chinanews.com reported on Friday.

The violated urns were broken into by five minors, the oldest 13 and the youngest 8. The minors admitted their crime to the police when investigations into the incident came close to their homes.

One of the minors learned the local custom of sprinkling a handful of coins into a grave before it was closed.

The minors used tree branches and skateboards to pry open the urns. They accumulated more than 130 coins.
