Female Mosques, Imams and School
Lvlan women's mosque was oringinally biult in 1956 by a group of female Muslims who relocated to Lanzhou from Central China's Henan province. The faithful had set up female Muslim schools around the country as early as the late Ming Dynasty. These turned into female mosques operated by women imams in late Qing Dynasty. > more

Zhang Lian was born and brought up on a small rural farm in Ningxia Hui autonomous region. Tired of farming, he left his village to start a new career writing poems. To sustain his creative lifestyle he goes door to door around the local county towns selling his poems. > more

D J Clark has worked worldwide as a journalist for more than 20 years. He specialises in multimedia story telling in China, where he has lived for the past four years. Clark also teaches multimedia Journalism in China for the University of Bolton.
