China to launch national patent strategy

Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) Wang Jingchuan said Tuesday that his office plans to launch a national patent strategy, which supports key industries and fields of high technologies.

The SIPO will help research institutes and major enterprises analyze the international trends of patent protection and zero in on major targets of technological innovation, Wang said.

China's patent law complies with the Agreement on Trade-related Intellectual Properties set by the World Trade Organiztion (WTO). Therefore, the governmental organ in charge of patent administration needs to create a friendly environment for cultivating scientific innovation and economic development, Wang said.

Wang also said that his office has reached agreement with the Ministry of Science and Technology on more closely linking scientific administration and patent management.

In addition, the office plans to encourage research institutes, enterprises and individuals to submit more patent applications, he said.
