FM spokesman: China opposes US sanctions on CNORINCO ( 2003-09-23 19:30) (Xinhua)
China expresses its strong dissatisfaction at and firm opposition to the US
sanctioning of other countries according to its own laws, said Chinese Foreign
Ministry spokesman Kong Quan Tuesday in Beijing.
Kong made the remark in response to a question about the US sanctions
recently imposed on China North Industries Corporation (CNORINCO) and China's
related sectors.
The Chinese government has always opposed the proliferation of weapons of
mass destruction (WMD) and their means of delivery, said Kong.
He said China had come up with a series of laws and regulations on its export
control, and carried out effective cooperation with related countries, including
the United States. The spokesman said such cooperation was expected to continue
on the basis of mutual respect and trust.
However, the United States again imposed sanctions on both corporations and
all activities of China in the development and production of missiles, aircraft,
spacecraft, electronics and warplanes, said Kong.
China thereby doubted the United States' sincerity regarding Sino-US
cooperation on non-proliferation and suspected its real intent, Kong said.
Kong said China demands the United States redress its wrongdoings and lift
the sanctions.
