Hideki Matsui hit a three-run homer in the first inning, and the New York Yankees led the Florida Marlins 6-0 after four innings of Game 2 of the World Series on Sunday night as they tried to bounce back after losing the opener.

Juan Rivera added an RBI double in the second off Florida starter Mark Redman, who lasted just 2 1-3 innings and allowed five hits, two walks, hit a batter and threw a wild pitch.

Alfonso Soriano hit a two-run homer in the fourth to make it 6-0.

Andy Pettitte, who won the second game against Minnesota and Boston after New York lost the opener in each of the previous two series, struggled in the first inning. He threw 21 pitches and went to a 3-2 count on all three batters. While Luis Castillo singled with one out, he then threw a called third strike past Ivan Rodriguez as Jorge Posada threw out Castillo trying to steal second.

Pettitte then settled down, retiring the side in order in the second and striking out all three batters in the third.

Redman also fell behind and it cost him. He walked Soriano leading off the game, but then struck out Derek Jeter. He picked off Soriano, who went for second and was caught stealing.

Redman then hit Jason Giambi with a pitch, allowed a single to Bernie Williams and fell behind Matsui 3-0. Matsui hit the next pitch over the wall in right-center.

New York added a run in the second when Nick Johnson bunted up the third-base line for a single and Rivera lined a double into the gap in right center. Rivera was thrown out at third — although replays appeared to show he got to the base ahead of the tag.

Rick Helling relieved Redman with one out in the third after Jeter singled, took second on a wild pitch and Williams walked with one out. Matsui then bounced to deep second for a forceout and Posada struck out.

Game 3 is Tuesday night in Florida with Mike Mussina of the Yankees starting against Josh Beckett.
