China has cracked down on illegal construction and land use to protect farmland and ensure steady economic growth.

Authorities have stopped 4,150 unauthorized construction projects since the beginning of this year.

Early last year, Chinese government began to investigate cases of illegal land use when concerns arose about the wholesale loss of farmland to construction projects and the effect this would have on the country's macro-economic growth.
