11月3日，一條罕見鯨魚的遺體被沖到了澳大利亞新南威爾士的海灘上，人們把它送往澳大利亞博物館�？茖W(xué)家們初步估計它屬于珍稀鯨類--朗曼氏突吻鯨，但后來證實是一種稀有的瓶鼻鯨，具有極大的研究價值。外電報道如下：The
remains of a rare whale washed ashore on a northern New South Wales beach
are to be sent to the Australian Museum. Originally thought to be a
Longman's beaked whale, the specimen has now been identified as a
bottlenose whale.
The whale's body was examined at Byron Bay, where it was stranded. Dr
Sandy Ingelby, from the Australian Museum, says all the body parts have
been frozen and researchers at the museum are very excited about receiving
this uncommon animal.
"It's terrific... these animals you know very little about their
biology and the opportunities to find out anything are quite rare," she
said.
Beaked whale表示“突吻鯨，喙鯨”，bottlenose whale表示“瓶鼻鯨”。鯨的種類還有很多，比如humpback
whale（大翅鯨）； blue whale（藍鯨）；gray whale（灰鯨）；sperm whale（抹香鯨）；pygmy sperm
whale（小抹香鯨）；drawf sperm whale（侏儒抹香鯨）等。
