Kenyans sweep Singapore marathon
Kenyan runners dominated the Singapore Marathon on Sunday, with Philip Tanui winning in 2 hours, 17 minutes and two seconds, and Hellen Cherono taking the women's race at 2:39:37. Tanui was one of nine runners to beat the 1984 course record of 2:18:30 set by Tommy Terrson of Sweden. The 2004 race drew a record 14,000 competitors onto the steamy streets of the city-state. In the men's race, Hombo Desdery of Tanzania came second in 2:17:15 and Victor Mangusho of Kenya was third in 2:17:27. The winner of the 2003 marathon, Kenya's John Kelai, was fourth in 2:17:49. Kenyans claimed the top three finishes in the women's race, with Kerubo Rose
in 2:40:23 and Atodoyang Margaret in 2:42:05 coming behind
