Chinese relief donations arrive in Maldives

Tens of tons of relief goods have arrived in Male, capital of the Maldives to help the tsunami-hit country recover from the natural disaster. The aid material includes power generators, water-purification equipment and food.

Since the island country was struck by the tsunami late last month, power and water supplies in most of its regions have been cut off.

The commercial counsellor at the Chinese embassy in the Maldives, Zhao Zhanfang said the aid flight comes just few hours after air services resumed.

"We hope the relief goods will give the local people essentials to rebuild their homeland."
