Schumacher looks on bright side
Michael Schumacher has vowed to bounce back after a troubled debut for Ferrari's new car in the Bahrain Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion dropped even further off the pace in the title race when a hydraulic problem ended his race early at Sakhir, his first mechanical failure since July 2001, a run of 58 races. Schumacher had been challenging the eventual winner, Fernando Alonso, when the problem struck on lap 12 but matters did not improve for Ferrari after his retirement. His team-mate, Rubens Barrichello, who had been plagued by gearbox problems all weekend, plummeted down the order after a battling drive into the points, as his Bridgestone tyres faded. He eventually finished ninth to leave Ferrari pointless at a grand-prix weekend for the first time since April 2003, 33 races ago. However, Schumacher preferred to look on the bright side. He said: "Seeing the new car racing, it was very competitive, and from now on I think we will be very competitive. That's the way I look at it." The 36-year-old is adamant the problem which ended his race was nothing to do with his new car. "It was just a hydraulic problem, which might have been caused by some debris. I don't think it has anything to do with the new car, it is just that something like this can always happen."
