Adu faces fire, promised more

After suffering a rude World Youth Championships ouster to Italy, U.S. Under-20 star Freddy Adu admitted that his play was lacking during the tourney and promised to work hard in order to raise his game.

The D.C. united teen phenom won a pair of penalty kicks during their time in Holland, but missed both and failed to make the impression observers had expected.

"Some guys didn’t play well, while others did," he told reporters. “Benny Feilhaber probably was the best player during the whole tournament."

"I’ll be the first one to stand here and tell you that I didn’t play my best and I was terrible this tournament," offered Adu. "I’m going to just go back, work harder and get to where I know I can get to."

"Hopefully, next time I can help the team out a lot more."
