Meeting of chief negotiators of six-party talks to continue

Chief negotiators of the fourth roundof six-party talks will continue their meeting Wednesday, according to an official with the delegation of the Republic of Korea.

The official said the meeting of the chief negotiators ended at 4:20 pm.

The meeting between chief negotiators began on Tuesday morning after the one-on-one consultations between delegations of China and the United States, and China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), said an official at the press center of the Chinese delegation.

The fourth round of the six-party talks, involving China, the DPRK, the United States, the Republic of Korea (ROK), Russia and Japan, inched into the eighth day Tuesday.

US chief negotiator Christopher Hill said earlier on Tuesday morning it was still very difficult for the United States and the DPRK to reach mutual understanding even though there was "no problem" for the two to talk.

"A lot of differences" still remained between the DPRK and the other participants of the six-party talks, he added.

A 3.5-hour deputy chief negotiators' meeting for the talks was held here on Monday afternoon, at which no concrete result was achieved, according to the press center of the Chinese delegation.

Chief negotiators from the six nations had frequent shuttle contacts for in-depth discussions on the draft since Sunday.
