China win women's volleyball worlds qualifying

Eight of Jordan's nine points were won through China's errors, with Aliyan Suzan grabbing the other.

In the day's other action, Australia, coached by former Chinese international Jiang Ying, crushed an under-manned Uzbek team 25-10, 25-15, 25-14.

Both teams made too many unforced errors but the Australians emerged as the winners thanks to their comparatively powerful serving and edge on the net.

"I'm quite satisfied with the result. My players looked a little bit nervous in the match and made a few errors, but it's normal for us, which are in fact an amateurish team," said Jiang, a former player of the Chinese women's national team in 1980s.

Uzbekistan, who had only seven players at its disposal, threatened only in the opening stage of the first set which saw the lead change hands five times before Australia used a 10-2 run at six-all to pull away and claim the set.

Australia, inspired by outside hitter Eileen Romanowski with 15 points, dominated throughout the following two sets and closed out the match in just over an hour.

The World Championship is scheduled to be held in Japan from October 31-November 16 next year. The top two finishers in each of the two groups of the Asian qualifying tournament will head to Japan.

Jordan will play Australia on Thursday, and Uzbekistan will take on Chinese Taipei.
