"I don't like decorating my apartment with things from the past and I have no strong affinity with ancient things. Chinese red, Chinese knots or Chinese calligraphy can be seen almost everywhere - it's becomes a real burden to the eye," says Dai.
She says there is no question the kitchen has become her favorite room. The couple spends much of their time at home here.
"The kitchen in our apartment does not have a concrete wall or anything that resembles or functions as a wall. It is totally open on all sides. Anything hemmed in all four sides, including design, is no longer free," she says.
"Once a kitchen is open, the natural lighting becomes delightful," she says.
"The air here is also the freshest in the house, unlike the usual stereotypes of kitchens, which are often greasy and smoky."
There is also an unusual bar counter in the center of the kitchen that takes the shape of a piano. According to Dai, the French compare the art of cooking to making beautiful music on the piano.
