3月29日，闊別多年的日全食再次光臨。這次日全食范圍很廣，在全世界很多地區(qū)都能看到。因中國地域偏離全食帶，所以29日只有西部一些地區(qū)能看到日偏食。當(dāng)月球繞地球轉(zhuǎn)到太陽和地球中間時(shí)，如果太陽、月球、地球三者正好排成或接近一條直線，月球擋住了射到地球上去的太陽光，這時(shí)就會(huì)發(fā)生日食現(xiàn)象。

報(bào)道中的solar eclipse就是自然奇觀“日食”。Solar源于希臘語，指“of，relating to，or proceeding from
the sun”（和太陽有關(guān)的或從太陽發(fā)出的），其相關(guān)的表達(dá)如：solar calendar（陽歷），solar cooker（太陽灶），solar
heating system（太陽能加熱系統(tǒng)）。
這里主要介紹一下eclipse，由于它指代“天體的部分或全部受其它天體的遮掩而變得晦暗”，我們可以將其引申為“使黯然失色”，用在英語寫作或口語表達(dá)上會(huì)您增色不少。
作名詞時(shí)，eclipse常和介詞in連用，如Fred
was in eclipse, exiled to a small post in the
south.（弗雷德失勢了，被打發(fā)到南方去擔(dān)任一個(gè)小差使。）作動(dòng)詞時(shí)，如：She is quite eclipsed by her clever younger
sister.（在聰明的妹妹面前，她變得黯然失色。）
另外，如果要強(qiáng)調(diào)“日全食”可用total solar eclipse來表達(dá)；“日偏食”則是partial solar eclipse。
