Seven Chinese citizens and three nationals from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) were killed on Saturday in two traffic accidents near Pyongyang, the Chinese embassy in the DPRK said on Sunday.
A bus carrying 27 Chinese tourists, which had traveled from the border city of Dandong in northeastern China's Liaoning province, overturned about 60 kilometers from Pyongyang due to ice on the road.
Another bus with a 17-member Chinese business delegation plunged into a ravine from a bridge in the same area minutes later.
Ten wounded Chinese, including three seriously injured, were being treated at Pyongyang Friendship Hospital, while those who were unharmed had returned to their accommodation.
The Chinese embassy activated an emergency mechanism and has dispatched staff to provide round-the clock care for those still in hospital.
The DPRK government has instructed health, tourism and diplomatic departments to deal with related issues. DPRK officials have also visited the wounded Chinese at the hospital.
Victims' relatives have been informed and would travel to Pyongyang soon, according to an official at the Chinese embassy in the DPRK.
"As these are bus accidents due to terrible natural conditions, they would not affect other tourist group or delegations from China to the country," said the embassy official.
