Homemade Protein Drink

1 cup skim milk, well-chilled

1 heaping tablespoon vanilla whey protein powder

to 1 teaspoon stevia/FOS blend, or to taste

1 tablespoon flaxseed meal

Put all these things in your blender. Now add something to flavor it: The very best is a big handful of frozen, unsweetened fruit, which adds vitamins and minerals and gives a thicker, frostier texture. For more healthy fat and protein, use a spoonful of natural peanut butter. A heaping tablespoon of cocoa powder makes that all-time favorite, chocolate, while a teaspoon of instant-coffee crystals gives you a hit of protein and your morning caffeine ration all in one. Run the blender till everything's smooth, pour and drink.

Note: Find stevia/FOS blend, flaxseed meal and vanilla whey protein powder at your health food store.

Made with cup of frozen, unsweetened strawberries, this will have 236 calories and 25 grams of carbohydrate, of which 7 grams will be fiber, for a usable-carb count of 18 grams. It also have 23 grams of protein, lots of B vitamins, 40 percent of your calcium, 32 percent of your zinc, 19 percent of your potassium and a healthy dose of omega-3 fatty acids. It tastes better than the bottled stuff, too.
